Pork price increases to RM2.50 per kilogram from today Penang Butchers Association: Pork price may continue to rise in the coming weeks

(Penang, 16th) Chairman of the Penang Butchers Association Chong Yi Cheng announced that from today, pork price will increase by RM2 to RM2.50 per kilogram, and pork price may continue to rise in the coming weeks!

He held a press conference today and said that the price of live pigs has been adjusted 6 times this year, from RM720 per 100 kilograms to RM1,240 per 100 kilograms.

“Even in just one week, it increased by RM100, that is, from RM1,140 per 100 kilograms last week to RM1,240 this week. ”

He wanted to tell consumers in Penang that the increase in pork prices was forced, because the price of live pigs has been rising, and the price of pork has also been forced to adjust.

Asked about the reason for the increase in live pig prices, he explained that last year, due to the outbreak of African swine fever in southern Malaysia, a large number of pigs were slaughtered, resulting in a serious shortage of live pigs in the area.

On the other hand, he also said that the war also affected the price of imported raw materials, causing the price of pig feed to rise.

He added that the raw materials for pig feed include corn, wheat and soybeans, and the import price of these raw materials is more than RM1,000.

Asked about whether the increase in pork prices will affect the business of pig dealers? He replied that it will definitely affect sales by about 20%.

“People will definitely buy less when they see the price of pork increase. ”
